A New Place To Call Home
She clapped her hands against her ears, why were the birds so loud? Why was it so loud? She wanted to resist opening her eyes but when it sounded like she was about to be crushed to death by a train her eyes opened; they stunk from the sun and she felt around her surroundings whilst her eyes adjusted. How wasted was she? She had to ask herself this often... she realised that much to her horror that her outfit was ruined and that she was indeed on train tracks, sitting up she rolled down the ditch just as the sound of a train approaching - horn blaring told her to get out of the way and hide unless she wanted to be train food. Her stomach rolled and she now wanted to clap a hand over her mouth...
"Where the hell am I?"
Her stomach had stopped rolling and she felt far more stable; feeling the telltale signs that she was sobering up and fast she looked around for her bag, when she couldn't find that she sighed and started to look for something sturdy to keep herself grounded; something strong and long enough that she could be sure she'd get out of this particular situation alive. Gripping the fence she decided it'd be best to keep hold until she made her way either onto a station platform or to somewhere like an exit that she could use and then disappear off into the middle of the neighbourhood; maybe I should just fly away... who am I kidding? It's peak hour morning traffic and from memory it's a Monday... which city am I in? I should figure that out before anything... hopefully my bag is some place safe... as if being summoned she could hear the loud powerful beating of wings as a large sea bird, the size of a small car seemed to lower itself in between the space of the tracks, the train long since passed by. Vivian had always thought it was funny that for a member of the house of Air that her own realmic creature would be a nearly see through gale in the shape of an albatross, she grinned when the bird tossed her, her bag. Catching it gratefully with one hand and blowing a soft kiss to the bird that she had not yet decided to name (usually the bird was referred to as wind or gale).
"What the hell would I do without you?"
The bird refused to respond as she opened the bug and rummaged simply for a normal mortal cigarette, the bird let out a deep breath of disappointment and she quickly made sure to give it a treat from the front pocket; berried flavoured gummies had long since become their agreed payment; she wanted to ask it for a ride but as she lit the cigarette and began to float-walk towards the nearest train station the bird departed just about as silently as it had arrived, making sure the strap was tight and close to her she allowed her to float up just a bit higher until she was standing on the platform - she couldn't be bothered to read signage and she certainly didn't have a fare for a ticket. The only other person there was an old man who eyed her up and down for her appearance; she must have looked like hell.
She ignored him and instead went about producing a large enough cloud of cigarette smoke, it was merely seconds later that she stepped into her home realm's apartment. Glancing at the mirror and cringing at the massive cut that seemed to run up and down her spine and onto her belly, she barely managed to wrangle herself out of her jeans when Quinnox entered. She didn't stop going about her own business of cleaning herself up; whispering Revene over and over until the injury was practically a faded forgotten memory. She rinsed her face, and washed (rather sent hurricane force winds through her hair to clean it up, it worked a charm but if done in the mortal realm left destruction and havoc in its wake).
"What can I do for you Quinnox?"
"Have fun last night?"
"I don't remember." She shrugged a woollen jumper on, she never felt the cold but she knew it was supposed to be winter in England (her latest place of stay).
"You were nearly murdered."
"By humans?"
"I suppose."
"Well they did a shit job didn't they."
"I want you to lay low for a while."
"Alright, boss man. I need more of the white stuff though."
"I'll have someone send you a new supply. Do try to name your bird and maybe settle down in the city for a while... get to know the locals. Get a normal job,"
"Quinnox you do remember that there's nothing normal about being a member of your house right?"
"I know but just try Vivian. Whilst I try to do some sleuthing... find out why the humans tried to kill you."
"Gotcha."
She batted her hands and soon found herself in the middle of a neighbourhood, she looked around and then felt a weight in her hands. A new set of keys, she smiled and looked up at the clouds; always grateful when Quinnox chose to provide her with places to stay. Now that she thought about it wasn't she in the geographical area that Elyn was in? She sighed and started to approach the iron gates when an elderly lady - technically a lady in her early years of retirement stepped out of the house door that was directly next to hers... or rather she walked out onto the drive way and was making a beeline for Vivian. She sighed and looked at the lady expectantly.
"You're trespassing"
"I can't trespass on my own land." Vivian felt the urge to roll her eyes, and the sudden urge to light another cigarette.
"Well I didn't see any moving trucks!"
"Overnight move, just got back from a walk around the neighbourhood."
"This is Clifton Down! You're too young to be here."
"I suggest you mind your own business."
Vivian's tone began to sour, the woman opened her mouth and Vivian inhaled, focusing on the woman's throat... the effects were immediate for the woman began to choke; Vivian didn't let her pass out and instead feigned concern by moving towards her neighbour's gate.
"Are you alright?"
She released the woman's throat and allowed her to breathe normally, the woman coughed and rubbed her throat. When she refused to say anything else, Vivian turned around and walked back to the front gate, both opening quickly as she rushed up the paved driveway and towards the front door holding the keys eagerly. The lights turned on, greeting her in a soft yellow light as she shut the door behind her and sniffed the inside of the house - it smelt of cinnamon and apples this must be one of Quinnox's favourite abodes. Nice... very nice. She moved down the hallway, taking her shoe off and placing them with the rest of the shoes - she realised that Quinnox had already had the house stocked with all of her belongings and other such non essential idle matters, her next destination was the kitchen; allowing herself to glide until she was in the marbled floored area of the house - the lights turning on as she moved about she went straight for the fridge and smiled. Some eggs would be good... maybe a cup of coffee... hmm this place is awfully large... perhaps I should see if Elyn is keen on moving on in... I still owe him a date or rather several dates and I need someone to babysit the house whilst I go out and party! Making her mind up, she looked around for a phone; spying one on the opposite side of the room - leading into the dining area, she kicked her feet and drifted until she was directly above the hallway table, picking up the phone she dialled his number (how she remembered this detail, astounded her).
"I've moved into town, wanna meet up... or more importantly do you want to move in?"
She spoke into his voicemail when no response was given. Ahh well she could just deliver the keys and a note in case his phone was dead.
