She licked the spoon, a smile lighting up her face and causing her body to tremble with jolts of electricity. So much so that the wooden boards underneath her feet were in danger of being set alight by the sparks that fell from her fingers. There was something about mushrooms that had been cooked in brown butter that made her want to melt into the air as though she was made of plasma. Placing the spoon down upon the bench she directed her attention to what was in the red crock pot, she had remembered seeing a recipe that called for Beef bourguignon, had she added the wine? She bit her lip and reached up into the cabinet, her fingers skimming the contents trying to find the bottle of wine, she never even knew what was in the bottle, she just knew it was meant to be used for cooking and that Nier kept a stockpile. Picking up another tasting spoon she dipped it in the pot and without so much as thinking about the temperature she went to taste the sauce. Not enough pepper... or wine. It was a good thing that she had checked, maybe if she had bothered to refer to the recipe more than she did; she wouldn't be in the predicament she was in.
"Maybe a little more... That can't hurt right? Besides... he said he was going to be late and this is only half done..."
Why she worried over such matters, confused Chaemai to some extent. Supposed she just wanted Nier to know she appreciated him just as much as she did. Stepping away from the stove, she lowered herself to check on the dessert in the oven, it was something called Peach Cobbler. It was something else she had never tried, — that was the best thing about being able to cook for someone she loved; she was allowed to try all of the foods she normally avoided out of wanting to make feeding her easier. She flinched at the sensation of metal touching her skin. Cursed static. Turning off the dials for everything on the stove and oven she clapped her hands in excitement — none of it was ready but she was in desperate need of a bath, though she did know how to cook she was terribly messy; like all manner of things that she set her mind to, she never seemed to keep her working environment anywhere near clean. She had sauce on her shirt, flour in her hair, on her arms... other dubious substances covered the rest of her outfit and she was pretty sure there was paint on her foot... where had her slippers gone?
Removing her clothing like a flower would loses its petals over time, she approached the bathroom. One would think that it was awfully counter productive for a force of electricity to want to bathe in water. Grasping the handles, she turned them as far as they could go, immediately hot water began to fill the tub. That was however not the only thing she was going to do. Glancing over the different bottles of essential oils she settled on: coconut, lime and magnolia. Once the tub was sufficiently filled to the brim, she uncapped the bottles of oils and poured equal amounts, allowing the water to be saturated entirely before replacing the caps and placing them back in their respective spots. She practically half-dove into the tub — not so much caring for the massive splash and overspill into the drier areas of the bathroom, she could always have one of her claimants clean it later. She remained underwater for what felt like an hour before surfacing and sighing in pure bliss.
She heard the door open, she scrambled to reach for her towel, unplugging the sink and nearly slipping on the water covered tiles she wrapped the towel around herself and poked her head out. Was he home? No that didn't seem right? Stepping back in the bathroom she dried herself off, grabbing a seperate towel for her hair she wrapped it up atop her head and walked to their bedroom. The sound of the oven being opened, and the stove being turned back on, gave her a sinking suspicion that he was indeed home — her surprise has been ruined. She cursed herself for taking a bath as she scrambled around their walk-in wardrobe, trying to get dressed whilst also drying her hair; which now stuck out in five-million different directions. Fuck static electricity sometimes. I swear it's a curse. Forcing her hair to behave by brushing it as harshly and as quickly as possible, until it sat on her shoulders straight as a needle.
She finally stepped out of the wardrobe in comfortable, airy dress — it was called a sundress... right? It was made of some kind of soft, fabric... cotton? Florita had explained textiles to her before but she had rarely paid attention. Regardless, the dress was long and had a deep slit that ran on its left side. Mostly the shade of peach but with a floral pattern... daisies? She really had no idea what plants were what, so worried about her appearance; she crashed right into Nier. Falling backwards — caught by his arm, she rubbed her nose which had turned pink from the impact.
"Welcome home!" She blurted as she assessed his appearance for any sign of injury.
| Earlier that week | "Promise me, you'll give him back to me. Even for just a day."
"He's on a critical mission at the moment."
Nammay lowered his arms to his side, it was a sign of his annoyance at her constant pestering. She had been on his ass ever since she had caught the whispers of a Metal claimant that Nier was returning to Nammay to relay information. As soon as she heard she practically broke into his house to beg Nammay for time with her fiancee. She rested her own hand on her hip, drumming her fingers deliberately so — her engagement ring was in full view.
"Surely Adaline agrees with me. You know how much I hate being alone. I've waited long enough to see him. He needs time to rest, to spend time with his loved ones."
Putting emphasis on the 'loved'. Boy she loved guilt tripping the older ancient who with a reluctant sigh nodded in agreement, causing her to jump with glee — and sending an entire rack of freshly finished spears clattering all over Nammay's forge, causing a slight scowl from the Metal Ancient as she disappeared like the wind back to the Purge.
"Such a child. Did you hear that?"
Nammay looked at his claimant who had been hiding in the shadows. He had no idea how a man like Nier had fallen for a woman like Chaemai nor how they were still together... she was such a child, entirely naive and a tad bit spoiled... worse when she did 'borrow Nier' as she put it, he had to wrangle the information out of Gahbreal to get any scrap of notice on the wellbeing of his own fucking Claimant — who seemingly disappeared off to Novevu knows. He sighed and began to collect his spears, placing them back on their rack and waiting for Nier to make a comment.

“Of course, I’ll have to get this contract taken care of rather quickly then won’t I? Still it’s surprising that she still doesn’t notice when I’m nearby.”
“It’s difficult for anyone to tell when you’re nearby Nier and you certainly make it that way.”
The claimant smiled as he walked from where he had been standing by to help his ancient clean up the weapons which had fallen. In his heart he desired after no more than quenching her desires, but he could tell this was all rather irritating to his ancient. Even so he couldn’t think of a good way to apologize other than continuing to work for him as he always has. Nier couldn’t very well blame her for acting the way she did, it was one of the reasons he loved her and also a feeling he could closely relate to. He felt the same way after all when it involved her albeit with a bit more formal poise. What Nammay saw as childish he simply saw as a display of her compassion, her innocence, the things that most ancients would abstain from putting on display as everyone had a duty to uphold. Things that would normally go without being seen for the sake of public sight made to be seen clearly. The only other ancient he knew to be so open about their feelings in the same way was Daenu. Nammay however was more secretive than most in the same regard which made it easy to understand how it seemed uncalled for in his eyes.
“I wouldn’t call her a child however.” He spoke as he lifted his hand to his face, the knuckle of his index finger placed against his upper lip. “Although Chaemai is an ancient it only goes to show that there are still things capable of flustering her. A show of innocence and also something I adore. We all can't help satiating that thing inside of us, making us feel like children when we're happy.”
“I wish you could be this understanding and mature when speaking with me sometimes, in more serious scenarios. I might even be capable of having a regular conversation like this more often.”
“Why, whatever do you mean my lord Nammay?”
“I’ll have to correct myself. You’re both children.”
|Present|
A smile formed itself on his face, eyes locked onto her as if a single moment missed could cause his end. How many times had this feeling absorbed him? How often was he with her and his mind was swallowed up with this sense of euphoria? He took in everything from the scents that followed her like an aura that drew him in to her hair, eyes, lips, her form… everything. He simply could not, would not miss a single moment of her. Presence alone like a siren’s song and that's without how absolutely stunning she is to see.
“It’s good to be back, my love.”
He pulled Chaemai closer to himself, for a moment wanting to forget the rest of the world entirely. Once she was well on her feet and balanced he took the opportunity to look over her with a caring gaze. As she examined him he would also take care to examine her, making note of any injuries in sight. He never found her to get injured and it pleased him for things to stay that way, but the discoloration of her nose caused him to chuckle slightly as he leaned forward and placed a hand on her cheek. He moved his face close to her and inspected to make certain things would be alright before giving her a peck on the nose. He would never get tired of the feeling that came with being so close to her.
“You should be more careful. While I relish the opportunity to take care of you in any way I can, I would certainly prefer you stay unharmed and in perfect condition.”
He wore a long sleeved maroon silk shirt which was far more comfortable than he had the right to own with a coat of matching material yet earthen tan in color hanging over his left arm. A pair of deep navy jeans and a pair of tan sheepskin moccasins made him look to be as comfortable as he could possibly muster. They both knew that when he wasn’t working Nier opted to be as comfortable as possible but he always seemed to dress in a way that seemed both comfortable yet formal when meeting with her.
It was also good that he chose to wear long sleeves, his right arm wasn’t really injured anymore but his previous mission required a special ‘touch’ which at the time rendered his arm flayed, to some extent, from his wrist to his elbow. By now he had been healed quite well but the scarring would take a bit more time to disappear. He’d have to question his methods for the future, but when his contracts require specific details to be met for his jobs some things always manage to go wrong in possibly the funniest ways. His problem now was that he’d have to keep it hidden from her as best he could which would be easy enough, but Chaemai had a keen eye and an intelligence that he couldn’t challenge in the slightest. Hiding things of this nature from her would always be a chance that never leaned in his favor. That still wouldn’t keep him from trying however.
He’d do everything as normally as always and act in a way to ensure that all of her efforts bore the fruits of her labors. The smiles he could pull out of her tonight would all be things to cherish. Just as they all were from the past as will be in the future. This time belongs to my love and I'll give her all of it. He stretched as best he could, relaxing himself as much as possible before leaning his head to the side in a playful manner.
“Well then. Would you like me to help you finish preparing this meal you’ve set up? Or would you rather I stand by and watch my beautiful Chaemai do it on her own?”
He was joking, yet completely serious. He was fully capable of understanding her efforts but that wasn’t enough to deter him from wanting to help. It seemed as if she’d push herself rather hard in these scenarios, attempts at pleasing him which he adored. While Nier would enjoy if she relaxed more he could also understand completely. He also did the exact same thing.
