Somewhere in Atami, Shizuoka
One, two, three, four... And again.... One, two, three, four...
"You can't hear me or somethin'?"
One, two, three, four...
"He's like a little fuckin' monk, man. It's crazy. You think he turns off his hearing or something?" The man reached down, waving a hand in front of the man in question's face. It got him no reaction so he waved more aggressively.
Shinzo Hazashi did not stop his meditation. He was used to classless fucks like these, but the fact that they bore the same name--Inagawa-kai--didn't cease to anger him. They acted like Americanized punks with no respect for the traditions that got them where they were. They had no respect. He wouldn't be bothered if they all died here.
The long-haired man tapped his fingertips to his thumb once more, his breaths deep and measured. He was too busy to pay attention to any of the meatheads that were assigned to protect Underboss Junto--he was listening. His ears strained to pick up the slightest disturbance in the air. There was no way to know where this assassin was coming from, only that he was coming. Shinzo had never seen the man before but he was familiar with his work. Maybe in another life they would have worked together, though as it stood, Shinzo found him annoying. There were more times than he could count that he had showed up to do a job and found it already done by the ice man.
One, two, three, four... And again...
The house they found themselves occupying was nondescript. It was just another house on a regular street. The ones surrounding them likely contained families and law-abiding citizens alike. It was surreal to consider. Even so, there was nothing about his life that Shinzo disliked. If anything, he felt bad for the normal people because they were nothing spectacular. Humans were nothing remarkable. In fact, if one wanted to boil it down to brass tacks: humans were interchangeable for one another. And the Inagawa-kai punks that constantly impeded his meditation were constant examples of it.
Shinzo ended his meditation with a disappointed sigh, uncrossing his legs and relaxing his posture at last. As his light brown eyes settled on the men before him they briefly flashed red with flame, causing one of them to flinch back. He smirked.
“I'm going for a piss,” he explained to his 'allies' in Japanese. “Don't take your eyes off Junto.”
The three other bodyguards in the room largely brushed him off--they didn't know what a guy with a sword was going to do, anyway.
Dread fluttered at the back of Shinzo's mind as he carried himself to the bathroom. It would only take a few seconds and he knew nothing catastrophic could happen in that time, but still...
He had barely pulled his dick out when he heard it: the unmistakable sound of four gunshots fired in quick succession to one another. The man wasted no time, zipping himself back up and sprinting down the short hallway of the two-bedroom house until he could see the living room. A spiral of flames was already eating away at his suit jacket in anticipation of what he found.
Rounding the corner, he instantly fell to his knees slack-jawed.
No fucking way...
They were all dead.
One, two, three headshots and one man holding a bullet wound in his neck. Shinzo rushed to him, replacing the man's hands to try to staunch some of the blood. He didn't even know this guy's name to try to talk to him. The man's eyes were bloodshot and terrified, flitting to and fro in confusion. Did he even know he was going to die?
“WHAT HAPPENED?” the Rhihon swordsman screamed into the man's face.
"He was j... just a... Kid..."
“Don't you die,” he commanded, even though he know it would amount to less than nothing. “This is your fault! You fucking survive!”
Shinzo was still screaming at him long after he breathed for the last time.

“You’re all feckin dead you mindless imbeciles.”
Reaching up to his messy bun and tugging on the item holding it all together he pulled out a rather ornate handgun, his favorite colt 1911 made from polished blued steel with a pearl grip, just fancy enough to not draw attention even when clearly in view. Apart from the surprise of a gun being drawn at considerable speed these people were amateurish at best. None of them had even managed to get their weapons in hand before his own four shots rang out. To his surprise the gurgling of a certain victim made him question his own accuracy, but they could bleed out for all he cared. For now, leaving the area was top priority. Haden slipped out of the building just as easily as he had found his way in. The security for the entire area was lack luster and it seemed they had only relied on manpower when they should have put their money into a well made fucking door. He couldn’t understand these people in the slightest and yet he didn’t understand any people at all. A man who judges people based on the way they die wasn’t really someone you could expect to understand anyone. The moment he found his way out and back onto the regular streets filled with citizens a smile stretched across his face. He lifted the gun back up and tied his hair back into a bun where it would be “ concealed” yet again, an aggressive look toward anyone who even seemed like they found his actions to be odd. Just as easy as it always is. I swear idiots like these should just retire and give up.
He attempted to call upon Daenu… of course no answer! She was the one who urged him to do this job for his group of mobster degenerates and yet he would have been happy just killing off his own group, but of course that was unacceptable. Now she had him in the middle of nowhere he wanted to be and she wouldn’t take him back home. No doubt fawning over Phita. AGAIN! As if he wasn’t angry enough after his interaction with the target, now he had to deal with this? The moment he had walked into that room he was mistaken for a kid. One of the men commented on how he was supposed to be in school or better yet “ she” because they also mistook him for a girl! While it made sense as a full head of long pale blonde hair, a thin frame and a height that at the time was just barely hitting that of something you’d be right to see as child sized... he still wasn't going to let it slide. An angry ball of ice and while he planned to do things silently they all deserved the bullet they got. He even tried to wear a suit and look as manly as he possibly could only to be seen as some random schoolkid who ditched! I have to cut me feckin' hair, even if Daenu doesn't want me to.“Hey! Lad!” He called out to a random person he walked by who tried their best to ignore him. “Oh so ya must think I’m joke, aye? Gonna run me blood pressure through the roof!”
He grabbed the man’s wrist and squeezed it just hard enough for them to realize he wasn’t going to asked for their attention again. Haden hated when the attention he desired wasn’t his own and having just been ignored by his ancient the ice claimant wasn’t going to tolerate this instance of disrespect. The person looked as if they were prepared to listen when they realized there wasn’t going to be a chance to escape his grip. “So now you’re ready to open your damn ears? Next time, why don’t ya listen from the start before I have to get feckin physical?” He cleared his throat, looking for the words to speak in proper dialect. He hated speaking to nonclaimants who couldn’t simply understand one another, but then he also hated most other claimants! “Where can I go to get the strongest possible drink around here? Don’t fuck with me! I will find you if ya give me the wrong directions.”
“Uh, just go down that road and take the third left you come to. You’ll see a sign with red lettering and that will be the place you’re looking for. It’s the only place I know of around here that sells drinks because I don’t drink often.” Haden smiled, releasing the man’s wrist and placing his hands in his pockets. “That wasn’t too hard now was it? Now get out of me feckin' face.” The person rushed off and as he did the Irishman turned on his heel to quickly follow the directions given to him. Now he’d have to wait around for Daenu to decide it was a good idea to take him back home! He sighed and entered the shop, a man welcoming him in and yet he didn’t care to respond other than approaching and asking for the strongest drink they had. It wasn’t his first time visiting the country for jobs of this nature and yet the drinks never were strong enough for his liking. His flask was already empty and it wouldn’t be filled again until he returned back home but all thinking about that did was make him want to go to Amarjeet’s bar, a place he could trust for a strong drink. The rougher the better and the stronger the more worth his time. He tried again to contact Daenu and again no answer. By now he had put his hair down again and laid the gun on the table in front of him. The mag had to be reloaded with new bullets to replace the missing ones and after that he could at least put the weapon into its holster. This is startin' to get annoying.
Drink after drink he would attempt to pass the time. It almost seemed as if at some point the workers wanted to cease the supply he demanded and yet a few angry words and an exchange of glares and he got what he wanted. Some watched as if concerned for his health, other seemed to wonder how he could still function, a quick flash of his yellow eyes and everyone would turn away. It’s too feckin' warm in this place. When is the lass gonna answer me?
A few deep breaths and the air around him chilled, cooled down and kept him at a reasonable temperature. Daenu always complained when he used his abilities but if she didn’t want him to then she could easily just pay attention. Leaving him alone like this was paramount to allowing the mobster to do whatever he wanted, all the makings of a mistake waiting to happen. “Oi! Another drink! Until ya learn how to make somethin’ strong enough to make me feel it then I’ll drink enough of this shite to feel it!”

Shinzo couldn't believe his eyes. His jaw was slack in a mix of amazement and disgust at the scene before him. They'd been slaughtered... And no doubt the assassin had killed his way up to them in the first place--they were on the third floor!
The sound of his sword clanked unhelpfully against the ground as he gazed at nothing in particular in defeat. He couldn't bring himself to look at Junto, who had been his assignment to protect. There was no doubt about the fact that he was dead--he was one of the one that had been shot in the head.
The swordsman felt numb more than anything. He put the selfishness of mourning Junto aside to focus on what he would have to do now that he was dead. The oyabun would be furious. Shinzo squeezed his eyes shut at the thought. It especially didn't look good that it seemed the only survivor was Shinzo himself.
Still, it couldn't all be his fault. He was one man! They had numbers and the forewarning that they were going to be attacked. How was he supposed to know that walking away for less than a minute would give them a big enough window to get decimated in such a way? Surely it was more of a reflection on them than him!
He looked around, wiping the man's blood on his rumpled shirt the best he could. It was less than satisfactory that some had managed to get on him but it couldn't be fixed now. The fire claimant ignored the flame boiling in the pit of his stomach at how things had turned out to look out of the window and out into the street. Of course, there was nothing out there that could help him--there was, of course, a disgruntled man holding his wrist to his chest that was rushing the opposite way of the house. The sight didn't alarm him in and of itself and so he dismissed it.
Turning back to face the room, he stopped in his tracks. He had been worried about the wrong thing, which was the oyabun of his yakuza family being angry with him. No, that would be a walk in a park compared to the real horror he was going to face: Phita.
Anger burned in him once more until it overflowed, the prospect of having to explain to Phita driving him to kick one of the lifeless corpses near him. Then he thought better of it and kicked him again and again until he felt slightly better.
Shinzo Hazashi was prepared to meet his grave as he tried to contact Phita in the Forge. His attempt at entering was rejected, though, for a reason he couldn't discern. She was likely with Daenu again. As much as he hated how much Daenu softened Phita up, this might've been the best thing to happen. Perhaps she would be a bit softer when she received the news.
The tall man did his best to glean what details he could from the situation. Judging from the upward angle of all of the gunshots, the shooter was short. But fast as hell--and a deadshot. Shinzo figured he'd left one of the punks on death's door to leave a message. What anyone could mean by it was beyond him. He figured the weapon had to be a pistol because no machine gunner was that precise while simultaneously being so sparse with the bullets used.
It was more annoying than anything to gather up the bodies of the deceased and be faced with how incompetent they were. He piled the 'security' punks one atop the other and put Junto to the side. He prayed for his old friend, paying him the respect he deserved as an underboss of the yakuza. The nameless security idiots, he spit on before setting ablaze.
From outside, Shinzo stood across the street watching the flames reach into the sky. It reminded him of his ruined jacket, which he shrugged off and burned as he watched the house. The shirt was on its way out as well, but he couldn't strip that, too.
More than anything he was disappointed he hadn't laid eyes on the great assassin. It was strange that there hadn't been a trace of him left except for one incompetent buffoon's last words. Then again, if it wasn't Junto he had murdered, Shinzo would've admired the guy.
I need a drink.
There was an audible gasp from a few patrons as the door swung open to allow the fire swordsman Shinzo entry. He was infamous among bars in the city for how much property damage he was capable of. He was not necessarily a belligerent drunk, but if he was ever with one of his bosses and they demanded less than savory things happen at the bar, Shinzo did not hesitate. The rumor was that he'd burnt the Lotus to the ground after Boss Yashiro was denied service for refusing to pay.
Alone as he was, though, he simply approached the bar and took a seat. It wasn't terribly busy but it wasn't empty so he was forced to sit two stools away from someone he had never seen before. This intrigued the man, whose brow shot up curiously. Surely a foreigner that was so physically obvious would ring a bell, right? Yet he appeared alone as well...
The bartender approached and took Shinzo's order quickly before skittering away. His light brown eyes were tinged slightly red with fire as he considered everything before him: a foreigner with a pearl-handled pistol. Because it wasn't a revolver, Shinzo had no way of knowing how many bullets were spent, but his suspicious were still piqued.
What were the fucking chances?
He shook his head wryly to himself as a smirk briefly crossed his lips. He watched the foreigner out of the corner of his eye for several more minutes, observing the way he downed his drinks. He was a small man--the only reason Shinzo could tell he was a man at all was because he could see his Adam's apple when he threw the drink back. Small frame, short, and young-looking all added up to...
The bartender returned just then, putting down the two double shots Shinzo had requested. The young flame wasted no time putting them away, cracking his neck in anticipation of what he was about to do. If this guy was who he thought, then it would be worth it, though not painless.
Shinzo reached over and snatched the pistol off of the counter quickly, standing as he did so to create more room between him and the white-haired man. Shinzo's movements were deliberate and obviously thought out as he cocked the hammer on the pistol back and aimed at the bartender, immediately shooting him in the head, before crouching to mimic being shorter and aiming at another patron and shooting him in the head as well. Screams erupted immediately, though Shinzo was uninterrupted in his focus. He looked over the bar at the fallen man before going over to the customer he'd killed.
As far as he could tell, with all the clues presented, this tiny alcoholic was probably the man who had murdered his charge.
The tall Japanese man didn't draw his sword immediately. He simply sighed, long and deep, before turning back to the assassin at the bar. They were alone now but surely the police would be arriving at some point soon.
"I have never seen you around here before," Shinzo began, clearing his throat as he reminded himself to speak English. "Why are you here, gaijin? I can smell Daenu on you. Iyana kanjidesu." it's disgusting.

“Oh? Ya seem like you’ve got some kinda chip on yer shoulders there lad! I suppose I understand seein’ as to how I can’t find a proper drink in this entire country!”
By now his attention wandered about the establishment, the customers fleeing as best they could while others simply sat by and eyed the two in fear. The bodied left by this asshole were no coincidence clearly but what really caused the annoyance of the evening was his remark toward Daenu. An annoyance that needed to be snipped at the roots. “Ya know, I thought I had killed all of you but I guess ya hid just well enough to escape.”
He looked to his gun, resenting how anyone else’s hand was touching it but his own. Besides that he shot like an amateur! Or well, at least that’s what he wanted to believe… and he had just reloaded that magazine! He grabbed the gun from his hand with as much speed as he could muster, a distasteful look as he brushed off the metal to make sure none of his stupid rubbed off on it.
The times like these were the ones in which he hated this shit the most. Daenu was the only person capable of sending someone to a foreign country to kill someone only to leave them there afterwards without a way home. Now he’s in some shitty bar filled with shitty drink and now having to deal with even shittier company because his ancient clearly didn’t think that anyone else would want to find him after he killed someone! This was meant to all happen quickly, not end with him sitting around in the same stupid city with nowhere to go!
“Now I’ve got to reload the damned thing again! Dick! Ya did it wrong anyway! If you’re gonna mimic me own shootin’ you could at least do it right! For example”, he quickly aimed the gun around the bar with four shots ringing off simultaneously. Of course none of them missed, three direct head shots and the last fourth one in the neck of an unsuspecting customer who now wriggled on the floor in agony. He smiled at his work, content with the results before turning back to this unknown stranger who believed that any of this was really necessary. “See? Ya could have at least done it all if you were gonna come to any real and proper conclusion, swordboy. Now are ya gonna get out of me face or do we have to kill every single fecker in here before you’re satisfied?”
By now he was slowly becoming more sober and more frustrated as a result. He could feel his core temperature dropping without the heat his drinks brought him but by now he couldn’t be bothered to reverse it. This guy was clearly asking for a fight he was not prepared for and Haden was prepared to wipe out the entire block if he had to in order to get Daenu’s attention so he could go home… Daenu! He had almost forgotten that this guy insulted Daenu!
What could I possibly say to piss this guy off? If it’s shit talkin’ he wants then it’s shit talkin’ he’s gonna get!
He sniffed the air once, a smirk on his face as he retied his hair and kept it in place with the gun. Normally he would have simply placed it back into its holster with the job done but apparently he needed to get ready for a possible fight. The sword at his side, the same smell that all fire claimants toted, there were too many things to count he could put into words! Just throwing it all out at once was going to be the gist of this one and if he wanted to get too upset then freezing the entire building over would solve the problem.
“So the ninja came out of hidin’ at the last second, aye? Found his compatriots bleedin’ on the feckin’ ground and decided that his best option for findin’ the culprit would be to harass any wayward man he finds havin’ a shitty drink? Maybe you should ask Phita to give ya a job that better suits yer lackluster skills, but then again a failure of an ancient won’t be makin’ anything other than failures so you must be the cream of the crop! The trash at the very top of the pile! Smolderin’ and all! Now are ya done wastin’ me damned time or will you continue to shite yourself all over the floor about somethin’ you don’t even have the answer to, because I’m not your guy!”
He walked back to the counter and continued drinking the last of his… what did they call it? Who cares, weak alcohol and channeled more of the cold air from his body into the surrounding area. If they were going to end up fighting he wasn’t going to bother with the gun at all. Daenu left him here to deal with this mess so Daenu would have to deal with the consequences of whatever did manage to happen.
“Maybe if you were there to see yer friends and boss die then you’d know who did it, but as far as I’m concerned I don’t believe I know what you’re on about.” Playing dumb wasn’t even possible in this case and he knew it. It was more like being an asshole and yet a part of him believed this guy might just be dumb enough to fall for it. A glance over in his direction and… he didn’t look too bad. Quite tall and well built in fact, on a normal day he’d be his type and yet this was NOT a normal day and he was just some jackoff samurai wannabe ruining his day!
“Tell you what, I’ll even give ya a bit of advice. If yer entire group dies without ya havin’ the slightest chance to stop it then it probably isn’t the brightest idea to go after the assassin who killed em! Not that I know what you’re talkin’ about to begin with. Fuckface.”

Thick, dark brows threaded together in something that could only be described as barely-contained fury. His inner flame seethed at every word that fell from the white-haired foreigner's mouth. Most notably to the Rhihon man was how he could've just as easily asked the stranger if he had been the one to murder the yakuza members around the corner - the outcome would've been the same. To make matters worse, the fucking mouth on this guy was filthy.
Any other house and this problem wouldn't have been a problem for long. Options here were limited since he did belong to Daenu, and Phita likely wouldn't have wanted to unduly upset the little crybaby. The swordsman's mind strayed to making this intruder nothing more than a shadow on the ground, but he noticed the gunman didn't make a move either. Both of them knew who the other was but the point remained that the job was over. Enacting a personal revenge against Daenu's house would only serve to bite him in the ass later... And thinking about spending time with Phita in the Forge made him unbelievably anxious.
"Hiding?!!" His thinly veiled fury faltered for a moment to allow for a look of honest aversion to the choice of words. To know that, on top of everything, this guy thought he was scary was enough to make Shinzo laugh! The grip on his weapon lessened. He doubted he would even have to pull it out if things came to blows, whether this man had a gun or not. If Shinzo could put his cockiness aside for a moment, he'd have given the foreigner his deserved props for how well he handled the gun in the first place.
The image of Junto's deceased body flashed through Shinzo's mind. That was the same man that had offered up one of his own fingers for Shinzo's transgressions against the family. It wasn't like he was going to lose one of his own fingers--he was an unrivaled swordsman they couldn't afford to cripple. The oyabun had considered finding another punishment with the same level of severity. Junto intervened.
Shinzo blinked. This was no time to get sappy. He tuned back in to whatever the white-haired, gun-toting midget was going on about.
“Maybe if you were there to see yer friends and boss die then you’d know who did it, but as far as I’m concerned I don’t believe I know what you’re on about.”
"You talk a lot," the dark-haired fire claimant grunted. "I don't hide from anyone, much less the smaller half of a schoolboy playing in his father's gun safe. You're the one that ran." He considered the state of things: the dead bodies scattered across the floor, the fact that they were all alone in the bar now, and the police were likely on the way. Maybe some yakuza as well. Shinzo couldn't judge how long it would take either to arrive, though he suspected it wouldn't take his 'brothers' much longer than a few minutes if they could figure out where he was. Though some neighborhood snitches should have informed them of what went down at the house by now.
"Killing you might make Daenu cry, so maybe I should." The thought brought a self-satisfied smirk to his lips. "Though I am not an unreasonable man. If you think you won before, fine. I'll set the record straight right here and Watashi wa anata ga tatte iru basho de anata o kiritaoshimasu, gaikoku hito." I will cut you down where you stand, foreigner.
Shinzo's hand finally left the hilt of his sword and he settled into a loose fighting stance. He didn't shed the sword because he noticed his enemy still had his gun in close reach. "Come, then, little girl. Unless you're scared again?"

LITTLE GIRL?!?!
The words couldn’t even properly register before he was on the attack. He wouldn’t need his gun for this one and fuck whatever Daenu wanted. This asshole was one foot in the grave and he was happy to push him the rest of the way! This would be easy, not like it was his first fire claimant kill after all. Daenu had expressly spoken up about him attacking fire claimants, no doubt due to her ‘connection’ with Phita, and that was exactly why he always took the opportunity to do it. He held a great deal of malice towards all people but none as much as Phita’s claimants.
A single wave of his hand and plume of chilling white-blue flames skimmed across the ground, permafrost bleeding into the ground toward Shinzo at point blank range. Of course that wouldn’t be enough however, fire claimants always managed to brush off the most brutal way he could kill anyone so easily. This was of course going to take more effort but not much if he could help it.
Shinzo was fast, too fast even, more than he had anticipated but he wouldn’t be willing to show surprise. He was far too angry to let that show in the slightest. Another wave of the arm and a spear of ice formed in the air and went flying towards the samurai who deftly deflected it with his blade. Starting a fight in close combat may not have been smart but he certainly wasn’t prepared to lose and neither was Shinzo, his sword drawn and quickly closing in on his opponent. Haden was always a terrible close range fighter, but that being said he was adept at making distance if need be. The problem would be if he could manage it this time around.
He crafted a wall of ice in front of himself, blocking sight somewhat but mainly for defense yet Shinzo sliced through it with ease. Of course he would use fire with his blade but that was too be expected and why he ducked underneath. His hand placed on the ground as spikes of ice shot upward but none of them landed of course, damn this guy was fast! Were all of these yakuza types a bunch of ninjas? He moved around like it was all too easy and it only managed to piss him off even more.
His eyebrows furrowed, his breath now freezing the air as it escaped his lips and a sign of things getting more intense. With a flick of his fingers the spikes of ice shattered about the floor and the cold air began to permeate off of his person. He could still feel the heat off of this guy, it made him wonder how long it had been since he’d actually felt any warmth… possibly only when he was around Phita, but Daenu was always close by to cancel it out. It felt nice yet off putting, calming in a way, just the right state of mind to kill a man! He rushed forward like an idiot towards the swordsman and formed a sword of pure ice in his hand, as much as he expected it to happen this guy was just idiotic enough to accept his challenge. In his mind he felt that Shinzo was just too stupid to realize he had been fighting with nothing but ranged tactics the entire time, the fire claimant on the other hand was simply waiting to see what tricks he had up his sleeve.
The moment they came within ranged they swung their swords at one another, the moment the sword covered in flames touched the Irishman’s own weapon the ice shattered to pieces and his small frame slid across the floor as if skating on ice. In fact that was exactly what had happened, the shattered ice from earlier coating the ground in a thin layer of cold which would easily go unnoticed by someone who would melt it with every step. Behind him, past his defenses, finally gotten the drop on him and with a clear shot. This fecker is dead!
Or so he thought.
Haden let out a deep breath and the air around him dropped to a blistering cold as he pivoted on his left foot. The twist of his body was as graceful as snow dancing through the air, his right foot tracing around in a circle as the fingers of right hand grazed along the floor, his preparations were set to finish this and yet… Shinzo was fast, accurate, lacking in the ability to waste any time as he spun around to attack. He was focused, so much so that it didn’t seem as if any of the ice claimant’s tricks would really matter. Haden’s eyes were locked onto his sword before turning to his attacker. They were filled with a rage that could barely be comprehended and yet when Shinzo’s eyes met them, for a split second, he saw glossy yellow orbs filled with something he didn’t expect. They were rather sad to see.
For that single moment neither of them could be brought to pay any attention to what they were doing. Far too used to what they would each respectively call a normal day’s work it was unsurprising when both of these men failed to truly see their situations for what they truly were. Shinzo startled for that gap in time which his sword hadn’t connected. He was too short! The swordsman leaned in to position himself better to strike, his foot slipping on the ice that before was completely unnoticed. Had the temperature dropped so low around the ice claimant that he couldn’t melt the ice in such close proximity? Haden on the other hand, flustered and in a panic, attempted to speed up his attack and yet he had nowhere near the amount of time he’d hoped.
The pommel of Shinzo’s blade striking the top of Haden’s head in a way that made his mind go numb. It was fast, he could feel his consciousness fading and it was so alarming he even managed to slip on his own ice. It didn’t however keep his attack from firing off before falling to the ground, an incomplete attack however. What was meant to be a wave of subzero spikes was rushed and unprepared, now a blast of cold shrapnel comprised of numerous large chunks of ice. How many did it take to finally bring the fire claimant down? It didn’t matter. There was far too much to be blocked, dodged or countered and regardless of the attempt he found himself pelted with the equivalent of a bunch of rather large stones. Something that would normally just be brushed off and yet the moment one landed a clean his on his head the fight was over.
A draw, with both parties unconscious.

How did I.... miss..?
It took only a second to marvel at this err in judgment. That was all his opponent needed to launch and land his counterattack as well, it seemed. Shinzo had struggled to recover and remembered faltering in his step in an attempt to readjust what should've been a lethal blow. He slipped... and got pelted in the head a half second after with what felt like blocks of ice.
At the prodding of a rough shove, the Japanese man trudged forward another step. He'd been pensive since arriving at the prison, woken up during processing with an unusual cuff around his neck. He had refused to say a word during all the hours it took to move him from processing and to the walk he found himself on now to his cell. That meant he had a lot of time to mull over the painstaking moments that had landed him there.
The cuff was something Shinzo had never been in contact with before. From what he could tell, it was something from his world - he couldn't use any of his abilities. He should've been able to melt through the ordinary chains around his wrists and ankles, but there was no spark. It was like he was empty. He couldn't call to Phita, either, try as he might. The most he could do was keep his distress to himself and try to find another way out.
He was charged with murder, among other, lesser things. They didn't know who he was but assumed he was yakuza by a few factors he didn't confirm or deny. They asked about the gaijin he'd been found with and what connection he had to all of it. Shinzo's lack of answers didn't sit well with anyone and he got a sore jaw to thank for it all. Things could have swung differently if he told them what family he was from, but he couldn't discern which one this warden answered to.
The swordsman took another step forward at the behest of the guards prodding him. He kept replaying that moment in his head... How could he have missed? One small mistake...
Shinzo wasn't used to feeling so exposed to the cold. The prison provided a T-shirt and thin top and bottom to defend from the awful draft. A slight shiver forced a tremble out of his jaw every few minutes.
"Get in," came the harsh voice of one of the escorts. They had stopped moving him, placing him squarely in front of an awaiting cell. Inside were two beds, one on top of the other, on the left side of the room. In the opposite corner was a single toilet and sink.
The Rhihon man frowned at the accommodations but otherwise stepped inside. His jaw ached with the reminder that they obviously didn't mind getting physical with him. It certainly didn't help that he had a raging headache from the skirmish in the bar.
"Turn back towards me and put your hands forward through the opening." Following the commands led to the chains being released. "Enjoy your stay with your gaijin."
-
The dark-haired fire claimant couldn't know the exact details of what that meant for several more hours. He sat on the top bunk, mulling over his decisions and plotting an escape, when he heard the familiar rattle of chains progressing down the hallway. His heart skipped a beat. They hadn't actually captured that stupid ice claimant as well, had they?
It could almost be considered comical. Shinzo prayed it wouldn't be true up until the actual second he saw that familiar white head bobbing into the picture. Shinzo had to make an effort to stow the rise that started in his chest, the wound on his forehead throbbing as if to remind him that its creator was near.
There were two choices before Shinzo Hazashi now: avenge the grudge that had landed him here in the first place or try starting from somewhere new?
The choice was a difficult one. He found himself seething at the idea - but whether that was from fury or because he was cold, he couldn't tell.
The tall man waited until the guards had left earshot to even consider saying anything. It was well within his deliberations that anything they said would be listened in on. Still, even for a man with so much control over every muscle in his body, he absolutely could not help himself when he blurted out, "I was not aware they let little girls into this prison." The man moved closer to the edge of his bed, uncrossing his legs to dangle them over the side. "Seems you have gone and gotten yourself lost again, gaijin. I wonder how long it will take Daenu to figure out she has misplaced you? This time, I mean."

The short man batted his eyelashes, his head twisting from left to right before focusing on the group of men before him. His first instinct was to move his hand toward his handgun. Cuffed? The second instinct was to freeze everything in sight. I can’t!? With his options now no longer in his favor and a headache that could end a person’s life he examined his surroundings and found himself exactly where he could at least expect. Prison.
Daenu had better get me out of here before I just start killin’ these people.
They proceeded to ask him question after question and while it would have been fun to lie and lead them to believe anything at all he instead chose to do something even worse. To each question he would proceed to answer in a different language, as if meaning to tell them he could speak in a way they could understand yet would refuse to do so. It was always fun to poke fun at the lacking of humans whenever he could but this would also prove to make them have a harder time figuring out who exactly he is, although it won’t be hard to gather information on someone of his… stature.
Tedious would only manage to be an understatement and when they began to finally grow impatient with his clear lack of respect and care for their desire, that was when things started to get physical. You could only expect to get punched in the face when you get on the wrong side of people like this, it was common in the business of mobsters and gangsters so it wasn’t anything new. What did confuse him however were the cuffs keeping his abilities from working. Since when did humans have the technology for this? Or better yet the brain power?
A few clean hits and a bit more antagonizing and it seemed they had grown more than tired of attempting to get the answers they wanted from him. They wanted to know who he was? What he was doing? Spent a lot of time accusing him of murder and yet none of them could do much of anything outside of blame him for a bar fight in which he fired a gun. Attempted murder with a few lesser charges to his name until they found what they needed to pin the recent murder of a few specific men on him. It would be something to worry about but he didn’t plan on staying in this place any longer than he needed to.
Abilities or not, the moment someone let a gun get too close to him he’d just snatch it without a second thought and leave with a few lives. Anyone could die on the way to his escape the moment he got his hands on a piece.
Hell, might even release the other prisoners just to so the lads can have somethin’ to deal with.

“Keep moving!” the guard shoved him forward as the yellow eyed male did his best to antagonize or provoke every other inmate in sight. If he could get at least one person to grow impatient or angry then he’d at least have accomplished something funny.
The temperature was just right, or at least that was what he would have said if it weren’t so cold! Not that he really cared, it wouldn’t kill him or even hurt him, but he didn’t like how he could feel it. They gave him the same clothes everyone else had even though he was nowhere near large enough in stature to fit them! The pants were easily tied but still covered his feet and the shirt was big and sloppy as if it belonged to someone else entirely! He was already cold enough as is and he didn’t even get the chance to wind down after using the ability he had used earlier, which he still felt indifference toward.
He was quite close to death, very close in fact and yet he managed to escape it by chance. Slipping on his own ice of all things! Then again at least he could always count on his luck to save him if nothing else. Then to top it all of his target had still survived! His attack was meant to kill and yet it was unfinished and ill prepared, making for a lackluster finish to say the least but then again he could at least rest knowing that he got away with his life. Although now he had more of a hangover than he wanted to admit.
The rattling of the chains as they finally came to a cell were beginning to agitate him and once he was told to go inside, to which he responded by turning back to his ‘escorts’ with a smile. It wasn’t the best idea as he was quickly shoved into the cell with the door shut behind him, a simple “turn back towards me and put your hands forward through the opening” being the only order he was willing to follow as the chains were quickly removed and he once again could maneuver himself freely.
“You’re gonna treat me so rough without takin’ me out for dinner first? How classless of ye!” the male called out as he folded his hair into a messy bun. Of course he didn’t get a response from them. He did however get a response from someone who he wished he didn’t have to hear at all.
Of all the people they could possibly put him in a cell with and it had to be this asshole. Maybe he should just strangle him in his sleep or some shit but that wouldn’t get him anywhere. It was abundantly clear that he wouldn’t be capable of speaking with Daenu as he had been trying since he’d woken up, but by now Haden was more distracted with coming up with anything to say in return for the insult he had received. The nerve of this guy!
As he spoke the male took a moment to observe him. Strong, tall, one of the athletic types no doubt. It was no wonder he couldn’t keep up with him physically. That still wouldn’t save him from a bullet.
“Oh you’d like that wouldn’t ya? Ye seem like the type to want to spend your time with a little girl, aye?” he spoke as he repositioned the shirt on his frame. “Daenu will probably find out where I am at the same time Phita figures you’ve gotten yourself locked away. Wasn’t that prissy fecker the ancient who get’s pretty upset when her claimants lose fights? Against an ice claimant no less? Maybe you’d be better off here.”
That was one thing he could rest assured about at least. While it was good to know he hadn’t lost entirely, looking back on how he hadn’t even remained conscious long enough to see the outcome, it was even better to know that their scuffle had technically turned out to be a draw. His attack was poorly constructed and unfinished but at least it was enough to land this prick in the same place as him.
“Imagine the disappointment. Havin’ been put to a feckin draw against a wee lass. I’m certain Phita will be burstin’ at the seams to hear about that. Wouldn’t ya say?”

"I did not lose!" Try as he might, Shinzo could not stop himself from getting supremely annoyed every time the ice boy claimed to win their duel. As much as Shinzo himself hated it, he knew he had not technically won. The girl-boy standing here was proof of that. The implications that Shinzo lost were more bothersome than the ones that he'd prefer a little girl's company.
Unfortunately... the midget had a point. Not only would Phita be upset that Underboss Junto had died while under Shinzo's protection, she also would not appreciate the added attention that Shinzo's destruction of the bar brought. Expecting her to be understanding about the fact that he'd also killed several human bystanders and only drawn with the damn fool who instigated it all might be too much. Needless to say, he could not afford to sit around and find out. This womanly ice claimant had a point...
"I have never seen you, gaijin. I want to know your name. Tell me." Maybe if he played it cool, this icicle would see his taunts weren't affecting Shinzo. Truthfully, Shinzo was afraid of Phita, but it would be horribly flawed not to be. She was dangerous, powerful, and unhinged. Being afraid of her was a survival tactic. He had seen too many a proud claimant be snuffed out by both their own arrogance and Phita's hand.
He was cold. The Japanese native rubbed his arms, goosebumps popping up in trails his fingers left. When was the last time he had been bothered by a breeze? Even without access to his Core, Shinzo ran hot. He was naturally warm and still could barely feel it while in this prison. He had to get rid of the collar. More than that, he had to figure out how the humans had gotten access to it in the first place. What was this technology made out of? Was it claimant technology? Why had Phita never taught him about it? The fact that Junto's assassin had one of the collars on as well made the fire claimant feel that he wasn't being singled out. Worse: the humans hated them both equally.
"If Phita and Daenu ever become untangled with each other long enough to notice us missing, we will both be skinned. You know that. Use your mouth for something other than childish insults to work towards something useful."
He climbed off the top bunk, his feet landing solidly on the slightly dusty ground. The dark-haired man then knocked on the wall to determine if there were any weaker spots. The thought of goring his counterpart's head on their shared toilet briefly crossed his mind, but he figured that would be more trouble than it was worth at the moment. He couldn't afford to be sent deeper into the prison or hidden away any more with Phita. It could be days before she wondered why he hadn't checked in. From there, he assumed she would immediately find out he was arrested. But is this really something he'd even want her to save him from if it got to that point? Would her 'saving' be better than whatever happened to him down here?
If he allowed it, he was sure the smaller man would endlessly argue. But Shinzo didn't care about their feud more than he cared about getting warm again and getting out. And to be frank, he was not a fan of the small, shared space. It felt like nowhere to turn that his rival was not already standing. Were they expected to kill each other before they could be questioned or something?
Almost robotic in his movement, Shinzo extended his left hand toward the smaller man. A truce was necessary for survival in his eyes. "It is a waste to think of ways to snap you in half when there are bigger issues at hand." It wasn't like it would take much dedication of mental faculties to just break the little man over his knee, but that was beside the point. Of course, the personal matter of Junto's relationship with Shinzo was all but absent from his mind. During the pursuit of his duties, nothing else mattered... except maybe his ego. "Shake my hand and we will duel again after we are free. Gaijin." Shinzo's dark gaze waited to meet those creepy but alluring eyes once more. Something about them... the fire claimant could not put his finger on it. Something about them...

"Hah! Not willin' to accept a loss with grace, eh?" He was on the verge of his next insult, but then he was asked for his name. Was that meant to be joke? "Ya want my name? Either yer dumb as bricks or lackin' common sense."
A part of him was more than willing to remain entirely hostile toward him, but he also wasn't stupid enough to not consider their situation. In fact, he was intolerably sober enough to consider all the possibilities currently on the table. All of this was a problem. With technicalities aside they weren't entirely enemies, and Daenu would certainly never leave him alone if he washed away his frustrations with unnecessary violence... on the other hand, he didn't care at all. With each passing second his skin grew colder. That very same cold did very little to lighten his mood and would only serve to make him more indifferent with each passing second. It was nothing more than a stark reminder of how he even managed to end up here at all. How it all began. It did, somehow, clear his mind long enough for him to make a decision.
"Name's Haden. And of course ya haven't seen me! I ain't nice enough to give every slobberin' neanderthal a peek."
Honestly this was all more trouble than it was worth. He found his fingers clinging to the material around his neck, imagining the thing freezing over and crumbling in his grasp. Of course nothing happened, but that only managed to upset him more. His nose scrunched as he looked around for anything at all he could used to bash in the skull of the first person who decided to approach where they were held, but of course they wouldn't leave anything like that here. Not to mention, he acted as if Daenu and Phita would ever manage to leave one another alone long enough to accomplish anything else besides bothering him with how touchy they were. And although he didn't want to admit it or say it aloud, while Phita might come and get the swordsman at some point, he'd be lucky if Daenu even realized he was gone. If she were paying attention she'd have already realized he'd used his abilities when he wasn't suppose to. He never paid much attention to his surroundings in a fight, so there was no telling how many people he had killed by accident during their small confrontation.
Haden could almost punch him in the face... if he could reliably reach it. For now it was best to focus on other things and yet all he could think about now was how pissed this entire situation had already made him. Clearly remembering Daenu doesn't truly care for anyone outside of herself and her consort, remembering just how much he hates the cold, but most importantly remembering what if feels like to be without a drink. How many decades had passed since he'd last been sober? Now he was thinking too clearly. Too vividly. Perhaps he'd pass the time by trying to steal things from this much taller, much stronger... sorta muscular...... a terrible idea. That only reminded him of how unreasonably frail he is and always has been! The plan was to ignore his forced roommate, but that was becoming increasingly more difficult. He had already successfully ignored his previous statement, as well as being called childish for the sake of not going on the offensive, but now he was holding his hand out to him?
"Are ya serious? Do I look like I wanna touch yer grubby little fingers?" he snarled with a disgusted expression. "And don't look at me like that! Talkin' about duels and what not. When this is all over yer gonna be glad if I don't just shoot ya in the back." He wasn't serious, at least for now, but the possibility was always on the table.
The suggestion of a duel was out of the question. Not to mention his lack of care for honor or fighting fair. In fact, aside from Shinzo, the only thing on his mind was taking advantage of the first opportunity he could get his hands on to get free. The lack of his element didn't bother him all that much, and in truth he was more disturbed by how cold it was. Perhaps he had taken for granted just how much nullification to the temperature his element had given him, but he also never truly was immune to it. The cold was always there and in retrospect it overpowered everything else when originating from himself, but now there was a subtle warmth... and the cold was coming from the outside. He was feeling it in full, but also not feeling it, enough to give him a headache thinking about it. Still, at least he could rely on one proper truth resting in his ability to fire a gun. If he could get his hands on a single firearm it wouldn't be that big of a deal to just walk out of this place at the cost of several bodies. Daenu could be as upset as she wanted to be about the mess, he'd get out of this place however he desired.
"I don't care for a feckin' duel, but I'll agree to a truce. I won't try t'kill ya while we're here and at least an hour after. That's as much a yer gettin' out of me." As much as he was opposed to it, he did relent and grab the dark-haired swordsman's hand as a sign of comradery. Then he was immediately surprised by the warmth. Perhaps it was because it had been so long since he'd interacted in this manner with anyone, but handshakes were already a weird concept. However, the sensation of his cold hand steadily becoming warmer made him doubletake. It was such a clear sensation, as if it spread through his veins and swarmed up his arm. Like his nerves were on fire. Not an ability, just the forgotten warmth of another person in general. A human sensation he had long forgotten. That was why he had to let go.
"Well... I don't know what yer plannin' but I don't much care unless it involves me gettin' a gun. These shits can die for all I care, and them havin' access to whatever these things are keepin' our elements in check is more than enough reason for it. I need me gun and I want at least five kills... or seven! Yeah, seven sounds like a good feckin' number." He then looked at the fire claimant again with an inquisitive glare. Yellow eyes like beads scanning his ever feature. "Yer strong, aye? Just put that ape strength t'use and break somethin'! I'm sick of standin' around in here."
